Our IEP / IDEA Advocacy Training!

THE NEED

we understand the importance of every IEP meeting and the need to support parents and youth through that process.

This is the foundation on which our IEP Volunteer program is based.

There is great need in the community for parents and caregivers to have available trained individuals who can accompany them in their child’s IEP meetings.

Professional advocates are limited and many people cannot afford to pay for these     services.  In response, the THRIVE Center created an IEP Training Program so as to be able to provide a cadre of trained volunteers who can support parents and caregivers at IEP meetings.

A FEW DETAILS

Training for IEP is offered every Spring (March or April) and Fall (November or December). The IEP Training is a full day training consisting of three components: Communication, The Law (IDEA) and Writing Effective IEPs.

IEP Volunteers’ contact information are contained in a list that is updated annually and is arranged by both geographic area and the background the volunteer has in working with specific disabilities or issue areas.  We make every attempt to match a parent with a volunteer for their upcoming IEP meeting.
